ABOUT
I'm Shashikant Patnaik. I work in technology by trade and photograph wildlife on free mornings that is not spoken for.
Fifteen years and counting inside enterprise systems: delivery, platform work, and now the AI layer, with the awkward governance questions that arrive once a system can act rather than advise. Written for the people doing the work, not the people signing the cheque. Real numbers where I have them, honest ones where they are less flattering.
The other half is big cats, worked mostly in the sal and teak forests of central India, with occasional trips further afield. Long mornings in the half dark following alarm calls, and most of them end with nothing. No baiting, no calls, no crowding a sighting, and vague locations where a species is under pressure.
The two sit together for a reason. A system inventory is a taxonomy, and so is a bird list. Both are an attempt to write down what is actually there rather than what the chart says should be, and both decay the same way when nobody maintains them.
Nothing goes up without a date, a place, and one surprise.
